Made in His Image

This is going to be a blasphemous entry. God made man in his image. OK. I get that. However what is it about males that they seem to have no thoughts about their toenails and good hygiene nor proper nail care?

It is very hot in Portugal and Spain and all these guys in their 70s are wearing sandals and, their feet, because I am short and have to look at the ground, have the grossest nails I've ever seen. Do their wives not suggest a small clip...some attention? Fungus care on a bath level? Jublia?

All the Renaissance sculptures from the Italian tradition had good feet. In fact the Italians, as I have learned today, were specialists in feet and legs and hands: Let's look at the masterpiece of Saint Jerome in Museo de Belles Artes as a perfect example of this: He is being tortured in some way and doing penance but the guy had a good pedicurist.

Then onto to the painter Zubiran: He painted God the Father of the Ages and the World. It's a massive painting about 10 metres high: God has his foot on the globe of the earth and because I am so short I'm right at foot level: what do you know? Worst grotty toenails I've seen since the Irish guy shared the birding boat trip with a few days ago...
